CATV (1)


What does CATV stand for? "Community antenna television" now often known as "Community access television"  We always like to use caution with CATV vs CCTV cables because they are in many ways different.  CATV cables are constructed using Copper Covered Steel "CCS" mainly for strength when consumers push and pull the coax out of TV's or monitors, next CATV cable use a bonded foil shield and a aluminum braid as to prevent RF leakage which results in fines from the FCC.  Also CATV cable transmit from low to hi frequencies 5Mhz to 3Ghz as compare to CCTV in low current data signals.

CCTV


What does CCTV stand for? Closed Circuit Television System.  Unlike CATV, CCTV is a private network or cameras that are not transmitted over community networks.  While some cables may use the same coax description such as RG 59 or RG 6 however the braid of a CCTV cable uses a 80 to 95% coverage made of Bare copper or Copper coated Aluminum (CCA).  Now with new types of CCTV such as HD-SDI cameras, new cables are required, so be sure to ask for the right cable for the application.

Data cables are defined as any media that allows baseband transmissions (binary 1,0s) from a transmitter to a receiver such as everyday things such as ATM machines, Cash registers, computers on a network or CCTV cameras transmission on twisted pair or coax.  Common Cables are Ethernet Cables such as (Cat5e, Cat6 or Cat7) Coaxial cable is sometimes used as a baseband digital data cable, such as in serial digital interface. Optical fiber cables, used in long distance or high interference areas such as electrical power plants, and good old Telecommunications Cable that is currently being used in many homes and businesses for transmitting voice and data transfers.
